The rage that shows up in traffic, with the pharmacy, at nothing — that isn't a character flaw. It's grief that hasn't been allowed to be sad yet. It's looking for a safer shape.

'I'm grieving addiction' is too big to grieve. 'I miss the way he used to call on Sundays' is small enough to cry about. Grief needs specifics to actually move through you.
The idea, in one line
You can love who they are without pretending this is who they were supposed to be.
Both things are true. You're allowed both. The grief for who they were supposed to be is not disloyalty — it's exactly the honesty that clears the fog so you can see the person actually standing in front of you.

For this week
Notice one moment of anger this week. Before reacting, ask: what am I actually sad about? You don't have to fix the sadness. Just name it once.
For a hard conversation
If there's a family member also carrying this — a spouse, a sibling — share one specific thing you miss. Not advice. Not strategy. Just: 'I miss this.'
For yourself
Let yourself cry about one small thing this week. Not the whole situation. Something specific. A song, a photo, a handwriting. Ten minutes. Then go about your day.
